Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday led politicians, religious leaders, families and residents for a memorial service and later fundraising for 11 victims who lost their lives during the tragic accident that claimed 11 lives.

The accident occurred last week at HZ area along the Nyaru-Eldama Ravine road in Keiyo South constituency in Elgeyo Marakwet. 

Tens of political leaders mostly from the North Rift region attended the event to pay their last tributes to those who lost their lives as well as support families of the affected.

Some of the leaders who attended the event include Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, Eldoret based tycoon Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich alias Buzeki, MPs Silas Tiren, Caleb Kositany, Oscar Sudi and Uasin Gishu Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar among others.

Deputy President William Ruto and Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich did not attend the event but their contributions were presented. 

According to a Facebook page by Senator Murkomen, over Sh10.7 million was raised 

“Last week we lost 11 people at HZ, Keiyo South through a grisly road accident. 7 of them were from one location. Today we had a joint memorial service and thereafter I presided over a fundraiser to support the victims. We raised over 10.7 Million to support the families and the 3 survivors. May God continue to comfort the bereaved and rest our loved ones in eternal peace,” reads Murkomen's post in part.
