Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has announced the airlifting of two diplomats who were involved in a road accident along Mombasa road at Lukenya area in Athi River on Tuesday evening.

Mutua said the Zambian High Commissioner to Kenya Brenda Muntemba and her colleague Kama Wasa were showing improvements before they were on Wednesday airlifted from the Machakos Level 5 Hospital to Nairobi for specialized treatment.

The duo sustained injuries after Muntemba's car collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.

They were travelling from a meeting at Maanzoni Lodge in Athi River before they were involved in the tragic incident.

The diplomats were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment.

Their driver Joseph Kariithi Ngutu sustained injuries but he is out of danger.

“We wish Zambian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Brenda Mudenda & diplomat Kama Wasa good recovery. They have been airlifted from Machakos for specialized treatment in Nairobi. We will be praying for you. I thank all my Machakos staff for the great & efficient response to this incident,” Mutua said.

Several leaders have sent the diplomats messages of goodwill after being involved in the accident.
