Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party candidate Irshard Sumra has conceded defeat in the Embakasi South by-election.
Sumra conceded defeat and congratulated his fierce rival Julius Mawathe of Wiper Democratic Movement Party.
The ODM candidate conceded as votes were still being tallied.
As reported by the Standard, as at 12 am on Saturday, Mawathe was leading with 4, 450 votes while Sumra had 1,901 votes.
The Embakasi South by-election had been taunted as a two-horse race between Sumra and Mawathe.
In his conceding message, Sumra urged his supporters to remain peaceful.
He told his supporters that there is always next time.
Sumra said he is ready to work with Mawathe to champion development in Embakasi constituency.
He also thanked ODM leader Raila Odinga and party officials for standing with him and leading his campaigns.
The Embakasi South poll was marred with low voter turn out and allegations of voter intimidation and bribery.
Fifteen candidates were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest in the by-election.
The seat had been left vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Mawathe on grounds that it was not free and fair.
