Justice Maraga becomes the high ranking government official to hold a private meeting with Moi since the tragedy hit the family last week after President Uhuru Kenyatta who visited on Monday.

"I have learnt with great sadness about the demise of Mr Jonathan Moi, son of former President Daniel arap Moi. Jonathan was well known as an outstanding rally driver in the heydays of the Safari Rally. May God give Mzee Moi and his family the fortitude to bear this heavy loss," Maraga wrote on his Twitter after the death of Johnathan.

Early this week, Moi family through spokesman Lee Njiru had said that the patriarch would not receive any mourner. No reason was given whatsoever even though the two leaders have since visited the second president of Kenya.

"The family with heavy hearts wishes to inform all our friends that our patriarch Mzee Moi may not be able to personally receive those wishing to offer their condolence. This inevitable stand does not in any way lessen our gratitude dear friends. Please understand us," the statement said.

Maraga's trip to Kabarak comes few hours after Deputy President William Ruto opted to visit Jonathan Moi's home in Kabimoi amidst speculations that he had been denied entry to Kabarak.

Ruto's spokesman David Mugonyi refuted the claims though. He said the DP had only planned to visit Kabimoi and Kuresoi. In his address at Kabimoi, Ruto urged residents to go for cancer screening.

"We need to educate our people on the importance of visiting hospitals for cancer screening because if detected in the early stages, it can be successfully treated," the DP said.

Mr Moi died at Nakuru's Medheal Hospital after being diagnosed with cancer. He was 64 years old. He retired from Safari rally in 1997 before unsuccessfully contesting for Eldama Ravine parliamentary seat.
