Plotters of Sharon Otieno's murder had put in place two options to throw investigators off-balance after the crime, reports the Standard.
Preliminary investigations to the gruesome murder has largely implicated Migori Governor Okoth Obado and a host of his allies who have since been charged for murdering the Rongo University student.
A source privy to the ongoing investigations says Obado's men had planned to associate the matter with the ongoing campaigns in Migori County for senatorial by-election.
“A theory about by-election had started developing that the murder was planned by a certain individual. That is the direction they wanted to lead everybody,” the source intimated.
While Obado's ODM party is backing former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko, the governor had defied the party's choice for little known Eddie Okech.
This theory was evident on Thursday as Obado supporters blamed Raila Odinga and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed for the governor's woes.
"This is purely political. We are telling Junet and Jakom (Raila) to leave our governor alone," shouted protestors.
Another option was to eliminate some of the people involved in the murder to conceal evidence.
This plot however, says DCI Kinoti, collapsed after police swiftly arrested those linked directly to the gruesome murder.
“Between three to five people who knew about Sharon’s murder were to be killed. Luckily, we uncovered the conspiracy.”
Some of those who have since been charged with murder include Obado's aide Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero who are believed to have lured Ms. Otieno and journalist Barack Oduor hours to the former's death.
Mr. Oduor, who broke the news, allegedly jumped out of the speeding vehicle, sustaining bruises on the way.
The taxi driver, Jackson Gombe, who drove the Toyota Fielder suspected to have been used in abduction, is said to have spilled the beans over the death leading to Obado's arrest.
