Blogger Robert Alai now claims powerful Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i should be party of interest in the ongoing fake gold scandal probe.
On Monday, detectives impounded several boxes believed to be containing fake gold in Nairobi and arrested 15 people. Several vehicles were also towed to police station in Nairobi to pave way for investigations.
But according to Alai, Dr Matiang'i should also be probed, arguing that the scandal cannot be detached from him. Although he did not cite specific evidence, he insisted that the minister along with business Chris Obure should be probed.
"After the scam, Zaheer bought a new Lexus LX570. Chris Obure, Fred Matiangi, and Paul Kobia were part of the deal. You can't sort this without having Matiangi answer too," he said.
Mr Zaheer Jhanda, who is in the mix of the ongoing probe, has been pictured previously with top politicians among them President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and DP William Ruto.
Two photos circulating on social media shows Matiang'i with the politician, who has vied twice unsuccessfully for Nyaribari Chache seat. He's very popular in Gusii region.
And aide to Dr Matiang'i, Mr Brian Mamboleo, on Tuesday rubbished the claims, arguing that the businessmen involved in the scam had impersonated Matiang'i for their selfish interests.
"They are desperately trying to drag the minister. They will even face impersonation charges. The minister is very clean and just like any Kenyans, he knew about this when police started investigations."
