Duale says Muslims need a clear interpretation of the ruling based on the constitution.

Speaking when he met Muslim leaders at a Nairobi hotel on Wednesday, Duale said the hijab ruling has caused confusion.

He claimed that some schools are rejecting Muslim students based on their hijab dressing.

"As a matter of urgency, I am going to write to the CJ and Attorney General to get a clear interpretation on the hijab ruling," he said.

Duale asked Muslims to remain firm, stating that the constitution guarantees their right and freedom to religion.

He asked parents and guardians to report schools that are mistreating their kids on grounds of putting on hijab.

Duale maintained that hijab is a serious religious practice among Muslims and not fashion as some critics are debating.

Last month, Supreme Court Judges gave school administrators the discretion to decide on their own dress code.

The ruling by the apex court has been interpreted to mean that schools will decide on whether to allow wearing of hijabs or not.

The ruling elicited anger among Muslim leaders and politicians who accused the Supreme court of allegedly discriminating on Islam religious practices.
