The youths have ventured into the business to put food on their tables and keep going.

The situation has led to increased numbers of youths involved in the trade most of who hire other people's motorcycles and pay at the end of the day on a daily basis.

However, the high number of bodaboda operators in the sub-county has seen various caliberes of people joining the trade some of who are associated with the following behaviors:

1. Dirt

Many people associate bodaboda operators with being dirty. They say that the riders rarely take bath.

"It's very hard to see a clean boda boda rider. I think they don't get enough time to wash their coats," says Tala resident Cate Katunge.

Katunge said mouths and armpits of some of the operators smell.

"Some of these guys should ask their wives to help them in cleaning or hire some cleaners to wash their clothes. They should take some time to got to shower and brush their teeth," she said.

2. Rudeness

"If I am asked the most rude people, I will go pick a boda boda rider. I don't know what happens to them when they get into the business," Purity Munee said.

Munee said these people can beat up someone for asking his/her fundermental rights while seeking their transport services.

She, however, noted that not all bodaboda operators are rude.

3. Theft

Richard Mutuku from Kathaana market in Tala said most bodaboda operators are thieves who just hide in the trade.

Mutuku recalled how three men attacked him when he was on his way home some time back at night and robbed him his cell phone and cash.

"I don't like these guys. I get chills when I hear a motorcycle behind me especially at night," Mutuku said.

4. Sex scandals

These guys have been accused of eloping with people's wives and school girls into lodgings.

"Some give women and school girls free rides in exchange of money." Mutiso Maingi said.

Maingi said some bodaboda operators in the region easily lure women into sex due to the fact that they get easy money, most women think they have lots of money.
