At her brother's burial in Bondo three years ago, a thrilling speech earned her admiration across the political divide despite the heated political temperatures in the country.

In her speech, Rosemary asked Kenya's to honour Fidel Odinga by burying hatchet and promoting integration of all communities.

"To honour Fidel, let's bury our differences. He loved peace. We can overcome the tribalism monster as a country if we appreciate one another," she said.

Since then, Rosemary was a key figure not only in her father's campaigns but also in the world of philanthropy.

In February last year at Kibra, while in the company of former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale, Ms Odinga announced her bid to lead Kibra constituency, a move that excited her supporters.

After days of well coordinated campaigns, Rosemary fell ill and was rushed to South Africa. In May 2017, her father posted that she'd recovered and was planning to travel home.

Unexpectedly, Rosemary bowed out of Kibra constituency race, terming the move as 'painful' but citing her health as main reason.

But after months of absence from the public, Rosemary announced the worst news over the weekend that she had gone blind while undergoing brain tumour treatment in South Africa, a year later.

"She operates mostly from the coast and she said she went blind one morning after walking up from her bed in a South African hospital last year," said JOOUST Secretary General Tony Amecha who attended a funeral in Siaya with her over the weekend.
