These unfoldings raise a lot of questions as to whether the era of hit politically sponsored squads is once again sprouting.

Barely a week ago, a local activist by the name Feizal Mohammed was arrested by people masquerading as police officers over what was reported as continued defamation against the county government.

What is more worrying is that despite the fact that the constitution provides for freedom of expression, the government still uses its machinery to silence critics.

Feizal had criticized governor Bunow Korane over his alleged fake certificate from the University of Nairobi.

If this was not a case of the powerful individuals abusing their powers, then what is it?

The most recent and most painful is the attempted assassination of former CEC Idris Muktar who was shot at a city mosque.

His close family member has hinted that the attempted murder was politically instigated.

This could be true because Idris served in the former Nathif Jama's era as a powerful individual in charge of the finance docket.

With this emerging trend, it is very much disturbing that hit squads are slowly taking charge of our political spheres and all must stand to condemn.
