An elderly man from Kemera in Nyamira County is unable to walk after jiggers infested on his feet.
Locals said the man, John Ruba, has been living with jiggers for the last five years.
"Ruba's dirtiness brought about jigger infestation. His wife abandoned him and eloped with another man who had sold a piece of land. He is currently immobile because the jiggers have destroyed his feet to the extent he can't walk on his own," said Thomas Nyakundi, a local.

Another local, Agnes Sarenge said the victim has no food to eat nor good bedding.
She said the victim has been living alone after his wife abandoned him since he was unable to provide for the family.
"His wife who he sired two kids with left him and married another man. Since then he has been suffering alone without any help from local leaders who have been making false promises," Sarenge said.
A local chief Benjamin Riang'a said the man is under medication.
"Community health workers have been treating him and there are hopes that he will get well soon. For now, he can't walk on his own," said the chief.
