ODM party leader Raila Odinga had a hard time on Monday controlling a crowd of his supporters which was angry over his decision to back President Uhuru Kenyatta's recommendations on the Finance Bill.

The recommendations saw an introduction of an 8% VAT on petroleum products among other taxes.

It has also, for the first time, made kerosene to cost more than diesel.

The crowd chanted fuel! fuel! lifting placards to express their anger over the new taxes.

Raila, who was in Kisumu, to grace the opening on Unaitas Sacco, had to find tricks to calm the crowd.

"I know the issue of the VAT on fuel is the biggest issue affecting Kenyans now,” Raila said.

He, however, explained that he only decided to back the bill after he sat down with Uhuru and realised that the country was on the brink of economic breakdown.
