According to the hospital's Chief Executive Officer Dr Wilson Aruasa, the girl has now fully recovered and currently at the children's home in Kitale, Trans Nzoia county.

The child was referred to MTRH from Kapenguria County Referral Hospital in May 2018 after X-ray revealed that needles were lodged in her body.

"Our surgeons did the surgery and removed the needles where she is now in a stable condition,” said Dr Aruasa on Tuesday.

“The surgical team reviewed the child two weeks ago and observed that she was in a good health and she will continue living a normal life. Safety and security of children is society's collective responsibility,” he added.

Aruasa noted that the hospital waived Sh103,000 in bills that the girl incurred during her admission.

The child’s grandparents; John Ling’aa and Emily Ling'aa expressed their gratitude to the hospital for the surgery and subsequent treatment and agreed on the baby to be taken to the children's home.

They, however, promised to be checking on her from time to time as advised by the county children's officer.

The girl was operated on 5th May 2018 by surgeons at the hospital led by Prof. Tenge Kuremu, a Pediatric Surgeon. The procedure lasted 1 hour, 45 minutes.
