Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday returned to South Sudan days after the country failed to implement the peace accord.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had appointed Kalonzo early this year as special envoy to South Sudan, which attained independence from Khartoum in 2011.
In a tweet, Kalonzo revealed his meeting with President Salva Kiir, although he did not disclose details about the trip.
"Earlier today when I paid a courtesy visit to H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit," Kalonzo tweeted.
Incidentally, his trip comes days after the United Nations Panel of Experts released a report that accused Kenya of aiding chaos in the young country.
Kenya, the experts argued, has done little to help South Sudan get back to the feet. Kiir and his challenger, Riek Machar asked for another six months to form a unity government last month.
“The government, in particular, has benefited from the inconsistent approach of the region,” the panel notes in regard Salva Kiir to administration.
“The bilateral meetings between the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, and Mr Kiir in Nairobi on 1 and 2 July 2019 have not led to the sustained presence and pressure necessary to fully implement the pre-transitional provisions of the agreement,” the UN panel states in reference to a peace deal reached last year.
The experts also questioned Kenya's decision not to implement travel bans targeting people believed to have caused chaos in South Sudan.
