The situation has paralyzed transport in Nakuru given that only a few vehicles are operating.

Most of the vehicles which are still on the road are those from reputable companies.

Town service vehicles plying Langalanga and Shabab routes which have been associated with flouting traffic rules are among those that have been kept off the road.

Traffic police officers have mounted road blocks at various check points to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules.

Bodaboda operators have booming business since commuters in various parts now prefer using them to their destinations since they are left with no options.

Members of the public while appreciating the measures taken to ensure that public service vehicles comply with the rules called on the Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to ensure that the crackdown is not used as an opportunity for police to make money.

“We are calling on CS Matiang’i to ensure that the move is not being used by some officers to siphon money from matatu owners,” said resident Maina.

Some players in the PSV industry have, however, said the measures taken by the Transport and Interior ministries are meant to help them.

They said it was high time sanity was restored in the PSV industry.

“This is a nice move that will help us have sanity on our roads," said Joseph Njoroge.
