Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has recounted how he rose from humble beginnings to the political fame he enjoys today.
In an interview on Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) on Wednesday, Mutua revealed that he was born and raised in a poor family.
The Machakos governor said that his family lived in a wooden house in Kibera’s Makina area before relocating to Riruta.
Governor Mutua further said that his family struggled to put food on the table, adding that he had to do ‘mjengo’ (construction work) to help his family.
“I did ‘mjengo’ to help my family buy ‘sukuma’ wiki (kales) and pay for my secondary school fees,” the governor said during the interview.
Mutua also revealed that he dropped out of Dagorreti High School while in Form Two for lacking fees.
Despite the humble beginnings and challenges, Mutua said he was determined to make it in life.
The Machakos governor said he understands the life poor Kenyans go through, adding that he will confront poverty and end corruption if he wins the presidency in 2022.
The Machakos county boss says that corruption and tribalism has denied Kenyans access to services.
Mutua argues that he has the qualities to take up the country’s leadership from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He further notes that it is time for young leaders to stand and fight for their country.
The Machakos governor is expected to battle out with other political heavy weights among them Deputy President William Ruto and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2022 presidential race.
