There are some football incidences that will never be forgotten in the World Cup history. Here are five of the most memorable moments in the history of Worl Cup:

1. Luis Suarez 2010 and 2014 dramas

Do you remember when Luis Suarez denied Africa the only chance to step in the semi-finals of the world cup? Well, in 2010 Suarez became a “goalkeeper” to deny Ghana’s Dominic Adiyiah a goal in the extra time of their quarterfinal match. 

He was given a red card, but unfortunately, Gyan missed the penalty. In the 2014 World Cup, Suarez did it again after he decided to bite defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder. He got banned for nine International matches after this incident.

2. The Seville tragedy

In the 1982 World Cup, one of the worst injuries in the history international football competition was witnessed. German goalkeeper Harald Schumacher’s foul on French defender Patrick Battiston left him with a broken jaw, lost some teeth, cracked his vertebrae and eventually went into a coma. 

There was no red card nor a penalty from the referee after all this.

3. Andrés Escobar murder

The late Escobar was a Columbian defender. He was one of the best during his time. He scored an own goal in the 1994 World Cup against the USA that led to their elimination. Ten days after the match, he was gunned down for costing his country.

4. Zinedine Zidane headbutt

In 2006, Zinedine red card after his headbutt on Italy’s Marco Materazzi will forever remain memorable. The France legend took this action after alleged provocation with an insult on his mother during the match.

5. Maradona goals in 1986

In the 1986 World Cup, Diego Maradona will forever be remembered for his two goals against England. He scored two memorable goals in the history of football. The first goal, “The Hand of God Goal,” he scored using his hand but never got penalized. The second goal, “The Goal of the Century,” he dribbled from the center of the pitch to beat four defenders and the goalkeeper to score.
