Doctors in Kisii County have issued the county government with a strike notice.
The doctors stated that the county government under the leadership of Governor James Ongwae has only seven days to implement the 2017 collective bargaining agreement.
Led by Dr Peter Morubi, the doctors claimed they were yet to be prompted, despite Ongwae's government promising them the same.
"We were promised that we will be promoted but that has never happened. Doctors are not being paid allowances as required. We also want an insurance cover for our safety," Morubi told journalists in Kisii town on Wednesday.
According to Morubi, doctors have remained stuck in one job group for a long time despite the county government promising them that they will be promoted.
Morubi, who is the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union Kisii branch treasurer maintained that the medics should also be allowed to enrol in masters programmes in various universities to enhance their skills.
"We are hereby issuing a seven-day ultimatum to the county government to implement the agreement failure to which no doctor will report to work. Ongwae's administration is mistreating us yet we deserve promotions, good allowances and a reasonable insurance cover," he added.
