Speaking on Tuesday night during a live interview on Citizen TV, Ruto said opposition leader Raila Odinga tried to create a wedge between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

For the first time, the DP painted a picture of the manoeuvres employed by politicians.

Responding on whether he was involved in the handshake, Ruto said he is ‘used’ to Raila’s political ‘manoeuvres’ and had seen it immediately Jubilee won a second term.

“When he called me, it was after Uhuru had named a new cabinet - when he named about six cabinet ministers and there was a hullabaloo,” Ruto said.

He added: “He tried to tell me you know, you are being shortchanged … and all manner of things."

The DP said he understood Raila’s overtures were meant to create bad blood between him and Uhuru, therefore, he decided to tell him off.

“I told him off explaining that unlike in 2013 when we had formed a government through coalition; in 2017 Jubilee had won election as one party. It was the president to name the cabinet,” Ruto said.

He also said while he thinks President Uhuru is genuine in the handshake, Raila might not.
