Senior Counsel Okong'o Mogeni on Wednesday lauded the cooperating between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political nemesis Raila Odinga, insisting that it has brought about harmony in Kenya.
Mr Mogeni, who doubles as Raila Odinga's lawyer, caused light moments at Kisii School when he also asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to embrace handshake with him, leaving the president in stitches.
The Nyamira senator was addressing leaders meeting drawn from Kisii and Nyamira when Uhuru visited Gusii region on Wednesday.
"Mimi ni mgeni kaunti hii, nitaongea machache. Najua Mungu akikugusa, utatutembelea huko Nyamira. Hii handshake na PM imesaidia mengi. Mimi Kama yule wakili nilikupeleka kortini, pia naomba handshake."
"Being a visitor here, I will be brief. I am sure someday you will visit Nyamira. The handshake between you and PM Raila has calmed the storm. As the lawyer who took you to court, I also want to have handshake with you right now," he said as Uhuru burst into laughter.
Mr Mogeni was part of Raila's legal team which successfully overturned Uhuru's victory at Supreme Court, leading to another place election.
After his speech, President Uhuru stood up and gave Mr Mogeni a handshake as participants cheered on. The two vowed to work together.
With Mogeni and Governor Nyagarama present at the event, a section of Nyamira leaders skipped on the pretext that Uhuru had cancelled his trip to the region.
