The sex workers claim they have been undergoing mistreatment from the group for the past two months, in an area well known as a haven for twilight girls.

Through their Smart Ladies group Chairperson Daisy Achieng, the sex workers say that last week alone, four of them were attacked at their 'workstations' and left nursing injuries.

“The four women were brutally attacked by members of Nyumba Kumi while waiting for clients along the road,” she told the standard on Tuesday.

She claimed that the machete-wielding group attacked the four for engaging in immoral activities that are unacceptable in the area, adding that she sees no harm in their activities.

Daisy noted that whoever has any issues with the conduct of the group members should report to the relevant authorities and not engage in violence, as most of the sex workers are harmless.

However, the assault claims were dismissed by area Nyumba Kumi Chairman Andrew Koros who said that the group is equally beneficial to area businesspeople and investors.

“Nobody can dare to harass sexual workers at the centre because they help us make profits from our businesses,” he said.

Rongai police boss denied having any information to do with the said harassment but noted that his office has launched a probe into the claims.

This is as Acheing accuses the police of laxity in arresting the suspects behind the attacks.
