Garissa and Wajir counties have sealed Sh10 billion deal meant to improve water and sanitation services.
According to a press statement posted by the Garissa County Government Press Unit (GCGPU) on Thursday, the two county bosses managed to secure the funds after signing an agreement with the World Bank.
"Garissa governor H.E Ali Korane today (Thursday) signed Water and Sanitation Development Program agreement of Kenya Development Response to develop Impact Project funded by the World Bank," read the statement in part.
On his part, Korane stated that the fund was part of the larger Sh120 billion that had been allocated for the North Eastern Development Initiative (NEDI) that is set to improve and strengthen the capacity of the two counties to offer reliable water services to residents.
For Garissa County, the fund will be channelled to improving sanitation services in Dadaab and Fafi sub-counties.
"We will invest the money in improving access to water and other sanitation services in Dadaab and Fafi sub-counties," stated the Garissa Governor.
With the latest funding by the World Bank, it is expected that perennial cases of water shortage in the two counties will be a thing of the past.
