As NASA leader Raila Odinga seeks to consolidate his Nyanza political support base during the forthcoming Migori Senatorial by-election, his party has won big following Jubilee party's declaration ahead of the crucial poll.
The seat which fell vacant following the death of Senator Ben Oluoch Okello is expected to be contested by the party's biggest heavyweights including two former ministers.
While speaking during the burial of Oluoch at his Rongo constituency home on Monday, the former Prime Minister urged the Jubilee party not to field a candidate in the by-election, arguing that the seat rightfully belongs to his ODM Party.
In response, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju who spoke at the same event confirmed that the ruling party will not have a candidate in the mini-poll.
"As Jubilee Party, we are not going to have a candidate in the forthcoming Migori Senatorial by-election," declared the former Rarieda MP.
The statement comes as a major boost to Raila's ODM party which is seeking to strengthen its numerical advantage in the Jubilee Party-dominated Senate.
Further, it will help in calming the political temperatures that have always characterized by-elections which are contested by both ODM and Jubilee.
