The national and county governments have asked nurses who are yet to report to work to do so failure to which they will face unspecified disciplinary action.
In a joint press statement on Tuesday, the chairman of the Council of Governors (CoG) Wycliffe Oparanya and Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said that the nurses who will be fired for not reporting to work stand no chance of being rehired into the health sector.
They noted that it is unfortunate that the nurses have defied President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive and court order yet they want their issues to be addressed.
The two bodies reminded the nurses that they have mechanisms that to lock out them from the job market unless they change their mind before a whip is cracked.
“It is hereby reiterated that the defiant nurses at both levels of government will face disciplinary action,” reads the statement, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary General Seth Panyako has insisted that the nurses will not change their tune unless their demands are met by the two governments.
He has maintained that the nurses deserve better pay and job promotion. The nurses have remained at home despite the government issues endless threats leaving services at most hospital paralyzed.
