The unidentified woman surprised the crowd just when the opposition leader was about to address the guests and residents.

She started singing without a microphone before one was handed over to her by the organizers of the event.

It was apparent that she was not going to leave Raila’s presence empty-handed, even as security officers tried to cut short her performance.

That is when the former Prime Minister dipped his hands into his pockets and gave the woman what is believed to have been Sh1, 000 note.

Raila’s action led to other guests seated at the dais to literally ‘shower’ the woman with notes.

“Mano yorwa ema gweya," said Raila in Luo.

It loosely translates to "that is my sister-in-law praising me".

The Africa Union special envoy for infrastructural development was at the port to lead officials in initiating a project, which is geared towards eradicating water hyacinth from Lake Victoria.

The initiative which also entails the revamping of the port was attended by national and county government officials, representatives of the Ugandan government and members of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).
