According to the Monday Nation, Murathe ended up being shoved aside under the intervention of Deputy President William Ruto whom he has been fighting lately.

The paper reports that the DP called President Uhuru Kenyatta Sunday morning demanding for the former Gatanga lawmaker's sacking, hours before he purportedly resigned.

The DP is said to have asked Uhuru what Murathe was still doing in the party as an official despite airing remarks that are a threat to the ruling block's unity.

And hours later, in the evening, the outspoken leader who is considered one of Uhuru's closest ally called a press conference at his Garden Estate home to present his resignation.

He claimed that he finds it impossible working side by side with a man whose Presidential ambitions he is fighting to halt, considering that he has been pushing for Ruto's retirement.

"I find that it is no longer tenable to stay on as the party vice chairman, given that I will have to sit in the same National Executive Council with a man I am taking to court to block from running for President," he said, according to Nation.

Murathe is of the opinion that Ruto's 2022 bid is unconstitutional, as he will have served for two terms under Uhuru and should exit since their terms run concurrently.

However, his remarks are facing full opposition from Ruto's allies who have termed him a divisive man out to spoil in for the DP.
