Kenyans sat on the edge of their seats and took a deep breath as veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto met in Nyamira during the funeral ceremony of former minister Henry Obwocha.

DP Ruto offered veiled criticism of Raila Odinga when he stood to address mourners.

He railed against the fixation on politics and positions, a response to Raila's address earlier recounting the 2017 elections.

"All of us should be democrats and democracy requires that we should accept defeat with grace. I call on you that when we go to elections that we respect the outcome. The voice of the people is the voice of God... We should cease all talk about positions, parties and leaders. Let us not talk about the people," Ruto said.

Raila had earlier recounted the 2017 presidential elections, the ensuing historic annulment and his controversial mock inauguration much to the annoyance of DP Ruto.

The two leaders are erstwhile allies who fell over the Mau Forest evictions.

Both are expected to be on the ballot in 2022 even though Raila has been coy about the prospect of his candidature.
