Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid is inevitable, he had since declared.
However, it risks not being realized, partly because of his own tribesmen in Rift Valley region.
Here are some of the Kalenjin politicians who might deny him the seat;
Gideon Moi
The younger Moi, son to former President Daniel Moi seems more established and more probable to win the seat compared to Ruto. The Senator is clean and as opposed to DP Ruto; he is yet to be stained by any graft allegations, a factor that might give him an upper hand.
He is also soft-spoken and an enemy to no one. This is as opposed to Ruto who has made many enemies as a result of his loose tongue, the group likely to reunite to fight him come 2022.
Should Senator Moi vie for the presidency as he has hinted, he will have it easier making friends basing on his soft nature, which could make him stronger.
Joshua Kuttuny
Kuttuny is not only outspoken but also a firebrand youthful lawmaker who stands his ground and never mixes his words, even if they could render him a victim. The Cherangany lawmaker has been making graft allegations against the DP, a factor that could make some of the people in support of Ruto's bid reconsider their stand. Though his Kalenjin tribesmen are likely to vote for him regardless, Kuttuny's revelations could deny him the votes from the remaining part of Kenya.
It is worth noting that no one in Kenya can win the presidency by solely riding on his community's vote and will have to bring others on board.
Alfred Keter
Just like Kuttuny, Keter is also a known anti-Ruto force and a merciless politician who never shies away from hitting out at him. Despite his controversial nature, he managed to secure reelection in 2017 and could use his assumed popularity to go deeper into his anti-Ruto moves.
The nation should not be shocked should Keter join and throw his weight behind another person for the top seat come 2022.
