Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has taken a swipe at critics of retired footballer McDonald Mariga, whose fate on running for Kibra by-election hangs on balance.
Mr Mariga was disqualified from the race by IEBC returning officer Beatrice Muli, who argued that his name could not be located in the register.
Following the move, Mariga has been trolled on several social media forum, with ODM leader Raila Odinga's wife, Ida, wondering why the footballer joined politics.
But Mr Murkomen, who met Mariga on Friday, insisted that despite the trolls, the former Harambee Stars midfielder is calm and relaxed over the matter.
"Keyboard warriors must know MacDonald Mariga has played in front of a packed San Siro with over 80,000 ecstatic football fans.
"There can be no greater pressure than playing in a Champions League night or in Derby di Milano. No wonder he is so calm amidst their persistent insults," said Murkomen.
IEBC will make a ruling whether or not to allow him join the race on Jubilee ticket this Monday. Critics believe that he's being sponsored by DP William Ruto in the race to succeed Ken Okoth.
Mariga's legal team led by Elisha Ogoya had challenged Muli’s decision to invalidate his candidature terming it illegal.
"The complainant has acknowledgement slip issued by IEBC, he was a holder of that slip as at the time he represented his nomination papers to the respondent. The validity of the slip has not been questioned at all," argued Ogoya.
Also in the race are Imran Okoth of ODM, Eliud Owalo of ANC and Ramadhan Khamisi of Ford Kenya. The by-election will be held on 7th November.
