Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged Kenyans to back the 2018 truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Premier Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Sunday, the former Vice President also called upon Kenyans to trust the two in their Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which has been the hottest debate in the nation lately.
He said that the two mean the best for Kenyans, hence their union after intense political fights, claiming that it's the desire to serve Kenyans that led to their ceasefire.
"Uhuru and Raila are brothers who were holding each other’s throat because of politics. However, they decided to put aside their political differences so that they can serve Kenyans effectively," he said.
He made the remarks during a Kenya Methodist Church thanksgiving function at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi county on Sunday.
Kalonzo who has since embraced the two leaders after initially questioning the handshake also hinted that the BBI will result in a referendum, calling upon leaders to back it.
He said that those opposed to the BBI are people thriving on corruption, and who have realized that their activities might be cut shot should the said looming changes come.
“People are becoming impatient with misrule and corruption and that is why we are seeing depression and protests. That is why I also call on the church to stop receiving money from illicit activities such as corruption and outright theft," he added.
Deputy President William Ruto has been under fire for questioning the BBI, with forces allied to Uhuru and Raila accusing him of having issues with an initiative set to benefit Kenyans.
