Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe is being used to 'force' Mount Kenya region back Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi in the 2022 general election, an MP from Central Kenya has claimed.
This comes after Murathe, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, said Central Kenya won't support Deputy President William Ruto in the next polls as they owe him no debt.
Mathira legislator Rigathi Gachagua claimed the Jubilee chief is working for unnamed people who are hellbent to ensure Ruto doesn't not succeed his boss.
While calling for party elections to replace the vocal politician, Gachagua challenged Murathe to go to grassroots and campaign for Mudavadi instead of misleading people by making statements which are not supported by the party.
"The officials we have are holding interim posts. Jubilee should hold elections as soon as possible. Besides, Murathe does not speak on behalf of the party because he has no mandate," he told the National on Monday.
In another interview, the MP said that the 2013 pre-election agreement that Kikuyus will back Ruto after Uhuru's retirement still stand and dismissed those claiming it was between the two Jubilee leaders.
"The president dismissed Murathe and said the party had its own plan. He is on record saying that he will do 10 years and Ruto 10 years. He has never said anything to the contrary, so why do people want to put words in his own mouth?" Gachagua said.
