A section of Members of Parliament from Central and Western regions allied to Deputy President William Ruto have challenged Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to quit active politics.
This follows Raila's recent appointment as the African Union special envoy for infrastructure development.
Speaking during a funds drive at the United Ecumenical Church (UPEC) in Annex on the outskirts of Eldoret town on Sunday, the legislators led Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and his Kimilili counterpart Didimus Barasa said Raila should quit politics and focus on his appointment.
They said there is a need for Raila to realize that his image is beyond Kenya and should, therefore, focus on the issues affecting the continent.
“Raila you were in politics with the likes of former President Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki, the late Kenneth Matiba, Martin Shikuku, and the late Kijana Wamalwa. You need to leave politics to the upcoming politicians led by the DP," said Khalwale.
“The opposition chief is now is beyond Kenya hence he should leave the local politics for us and focus on his role which position does not require politics,” added Nyoro.
There have been mixed opinions on whether Raila should quit active politics after being appointed a special envoy by AU.
His allies, however, insist that the appointment does not affect his future political plans.
