There was drama in Mombasa on Valentine's Day after a middle-aged man tried to commit suicide at Nyali Bridge.

The man had unsuccessfully jumped into the Indian Ocean with intentions of killing himself according to eyewitness.

Good samaritans and onlookers rushed to the scene and successfully retrieved the seemingly shocked man from the waters.He however couldn't stop shouting "Nataka kufa (I want to die)" as he jumped into the Indian Ocean.

Witnesses said the man had stood on top of the famous bridge for a while before the jump.

Kenya Red Cross Mombasa branch officials rushed the man to the Coast General Hospital for treatment after administering first aid to him.
