The remains of the legendary python named Omieri will be returned to Kisumu next month.
Omieri died 30 years-ago in the hills of Nyakach, Kisumu County following injuries arising from wild fires.
After the death, the remains of the snake were transported to Nairobi for preservation.
But now, the remains of the giant female python will be showcased in Kisumu for five days during the 3rd national cultural celebrations.
The event will be held between September 19 and 23, 2018 at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground following a partnership between the Kisumu County government and the National Museums of Kenya.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Thursday, National Museums of Kenya Chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia said that preparations ahead of the event are going on well.
“Preparations towards the event are on-going. The remains of the snake were well preserved at the Snake Park in Nairobi,” said Mr Kibunjia.
On his part, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong’o said the county boasts of a number of heritage sites that can be marketed globally.
Representatives from all the 47 counties will converge in Kisumu to showcase various cultures and cultural performances.
The celebrations are expected to be officially opened by President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
