The Makueni senator, who was attending Senate sitting in Nandi County, reportedly chocked on food before being rushed to a nearby health facility.

"I did not collapse. I only chocked," he said in a short statement on his Twitter handle, hours after news about his purported collapse went viral.

According to an eyewitness account, the Senator choked on food and later excused himself to go to the washrooms before Senate Sergeant at Arms followed him and later walked him to a waiting car which rushed him to Nandi County Referral Hospital.

After receiving first aid at the facility, he was later transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment. Doctors say he is in stable condition.

While responding to a user on social media, he added: " I am now stable. It was just a small matter."

Senators are in North Rift for the first ever sitting outside Nairobi with Uasin Gushu having hosted them on Tuesday.

Among other things, senators are expected to discuss the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to slash Sh9 billion from devolved units in his budget austerity measures proposal.
