The Head of State arrived at Kisumu International Airport minutes past noon before being driven to Seme, using Kisumu-Busia road.

Mr Kenyatta and Odinga are among several guests attending the burial of Mama Dorcas Owino, the mother to Governor Nyong'o. Dr James Nyikal is the master of ceremony by virtue of being area MP.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Kisumu where he will be attending the funeral of Governor Anyang Nyong'o's mother, Dorcas Owino in Ratta, Seme," NTV tweeted.

In recent weeks, Uhuru has often defended Mr Odinga, his former political competitor, castigating a section of Jubilee leaders who have often accused the former PM of using handshake to break Jubilee Party.

“We have just been talking about issues affecting our people. If its infrastructure, what do we need to do? We discuss and we support each other,” said Uhuru in April when defending Raila.

“We sit; we discuss; we agree. He (Mr Odinga) also gives me ideas that enhance something and make it even better. What is wrong with that?”

Friday's trip to Kisumu is the third ever by Uhuru ever since reconciling with Raila. He visited in December last year when commissioning various projects. In February, he attended Bruce Odhiambo's funeral.

Also, Uhuru has visited the neighbouring Kisii once ever since reconciling with Odinga. Nyanza has been a major beneficiary of the Handshake.
