Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa now wants Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i to resign over the fake gold scandal.
Speaking at Chepchoina Immaculate Church in Trans Nzoia County on Saturday, Jumwa hit out at the Matiang’i claiming he knows much about the gold scam and he too should be investigated.
The vocal MP said that the Parliamentary Security Committee will summon the CS to explain to the country what he knows about the scandal.
“If he (CS Matiang’i) fails to tell the Committee what he knows about the gold scam then he does not deserve to be in charge of the internal security docket,” Jumwa said in a video shared on Twitter.
She noted that big names have been linked to the gold scam and CS Matiang’i's name has also been mentioned.
Jumwa also said that the fake gold scandal has tarnished the country’s name and the truth about it must be known.
The fake gold scandal has elicited debate with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation conducting investigations.
On Thursday, DCI George Kinoti confirmed that Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula was under probe over links to the scandal.
The saga took a new twist on Friday after an audio clip surfaced online where a voice suspected to be of Wetangula drops the names of ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and President Kenyatta to assure a Dubai gold investor that their alleged detained consignment would be released.
Deputy President William Ruto has since asked opposition leaders to stop dragging President Kenyatta’s name into the scandal.
“I tell our brothers in the opposition not to import their bad habits to Jubilee, they should shun engaging in dirty deals, corruption and coning others,” the DP said as quoted by Citizen Digital.
