A visibly angry Deputy President William Ruto confronted Interior PS Karanja Kibicho at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday.
The two were at the airport around 8pm to receive President Uhuru Kenyatta who was jetting in from Kigali, Rwanda.
According to People Daily, Hell broke loose after Ruto arrived at the airport and spotted Kibicho.
A furious Ruto, the paper added, wanted to know why Kibicho was barring security officers within counties from being in charge of his meeting in counties.
“And for close to 15 minutes, a visibly angry Ruto is said to have engaged the PS wanting to know why he had allegedly instructed county commissioners and police commanders not to provide security at his functions.
A source, who was present during the “lecture”, said the DP cautioned Kibicho not to use his office to coerce administrators on the ground to frustrate his 2022 presidential bid,” the paper reported.
Those who were at the airport said they ‘had never seen the DP that angry’.
“Everyone present including the service commanders were taken by surprise. Nobody uttered a word as the lecture by the visibly angry Ruto continued,” a source told the paper.
There have been claims within political circles that the PS has ordered security commanders not to take charge of Ruto’s rallies.
