Ambitious Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday will return to the populous Gusii region, a week after holding a series of fund raisers in the region

With over one million votes at stake, Ruto is battling to upstage Raila Odinga, who has been dominant in the region did the last decade.

Last week, Ruto initiated launching of Kemera-Kiendege-Gachuba-Girango-Keumbu road in Nyamira County on Saturday before going to fund raise in Nyabururu, Kisii County.

The two counties which have predominantly voted for ODM have a total of 1.2 million votes which the DP is keep to pocket.

On Saturday, Ruto will be in Bobasi constituency where he will lead a fund drive for 19 Seventh Day Adventist churches according to area MP Innocent Obiri.

"The DP will be our official guest. He has confirmed attendance and we are very happy. We shall host him.

"I don't want to talk much about the trip but it's a boost to our local community. He is our son here," he said.

Buoyed by support from local leadership, Ruto however struggling to get the blessings of Governor John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii).

Instead, he's relying on local MPs led by Richard Onyonka, Joash Nyamoko and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.
