Threats by people believed to be proxies to Migori Governor Okoth Obado precipitated slain student Sharon Otieno's decision to frequently change phone contacts months to her death, her mother has claimed.
Ms. Otieno's lifeless body was retrieved from Kodera Forest on Tuesday evening after missing for barely 24-hours from Rongo town where she had been abducted.
In a detailed interview with the media, Mrs. Melida Auma claimed that Governor Obado had asked Ms. Otieno who was seven months pregnant for him to abort.
"I asked her why she frequently changed mobile lines and she told me she was being threatened because she had refused to abort the pregnancy,” she added.
According to the mother, the intimate relationship between the governor and her daughter turned sour when she refused to abort the baby upon advise from family members.
"She told us about her pregnancy and the person behind it. I told her not to abort because it could result in many complications," Melida said.
Governor Obado's press secretary Nicholas Anyuor has dismissed the allegations insisting that the PA should take personal responsibility if at all he is an accomplice to the murder.
"They can’t prove the pregnancy belonged to the governor," he said adding that it was a wider plot by opponents to taint the governor's image.
Mrs. Auma had however revealed that her daughter has been in contact with the governor and was even promised county tenders.
The 24-year-old student at Rongo University was abducted along with Nation journalist Barack Oduor, who narrowly escaped death by jumping out of kidnappers speeding vehicle.
