Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko and her Malindi counterpart Aisha Jumwa have some factors in common. The coastal female legislators have established themselves as reliable women revolutionising the place of women in society.
They have taken male politicians head-on and triumphed. They share the following factors.
1. Marriage history
The two have had some tough times in their marriage life. The fire-spitting Jumwa ended her marriage in a dramatic manner. She returned her dowry to her in-laws. Jumwa explained that this was the wish of her former husband if she wanted to continue with her political ambitions.
On her part, Mboko also separated from her husband. She even joked about getting a Pokot husband during a tour of Baringo County. She believed, he would understand her better than her former coastal husband would.
2. Charisma
The two women have mastered the art of speaking. They have used it to floor their male rivals in competitive politics to claim slots in the National Assembly. Aisha Jumwa being the frontrunner, has been a coveted pride by all political heavyweights including Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
