A 38-year-old woman was on Monday taken to Shanzu Court to answer to charges of selling her 8-month-old baby.
The accused, Joyce Wairimu, who was being charged alongside two other suspects was being accused of allegedly selling her baby.
Wairimu was arraigned before Shanzu senior principal Magistrate Diana Mochache and was charged together with Susan Nyambura and Margaret Wairimu.
The baby, Consolata Wambui, had gone missing on Thursday, November 8, this year in Mshomoroni area of Kisauni Sub-county.
She was however found in Molo last week and the mother together with the other two women were arrested by the police in connection to her disappearance.
The detectives in the case asked the court to grant them more time to complete their investigations. They said they followed communication between the three on their mobile phones through GPRS which led them to the suspicion that the mother might have hand in the case.
Magistrate Mochache ordered for the accused persons to be detained in police custody to allow the police to complete their investigations.
Magistrate Mochache further directed the mother be subjected to psychiatric evaluation.
When the baby was reported missing three weeks ago, the family had appealed to members of the public to help find their missing child and had offered a cash reward of Sh100,000 to anyone with information.
