The victims have appealed to the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government to speed up the process of their compensation.

Former assistant minister Koigi wa Wamwere, who is one of the victims, is demanding Sh23.6 million for being tortured during former President Daniel Arap Moi’s regime.

The victims are demanding more than Sh154 million from the government.

In a letter written to Treasury CS Henry Rotich, Koigi and the rest have lamented over delayed compensation.

Through their lawyer Gitau Mwara, the victims faulted the government for failing to respond to their plight after the court approved their compensation.

They also revealed that they presented the letter to the Attorney General but nothing is forthcoming despite endless promises they are received over years.

They want the amount paid to cater for their medical bills and other expenses because of the suffering they went through during the Nyayo Era.

“We have been awarded payments for torture, personal injury and employment claims but it is becoming another torture to be paid by the Treasury. Why?” reads part of the letter to Mr Rotich, as seen by Daily Nation.
