Tiaty lawmaker William Kamket has hit out at the government over the biting hunger reported in some counties, which is now threatening the lives of citizens.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday evening, Kamket whose constituency is among those affected by the drought put the government on the spot for doing less to salvage the situation.
The MP noted that he was embarrassed of being part of a failed government that was unable to provide and sustain her people, despite having been warned of the drought situation before it got dire.
"The situation is bad, it is becoming an embarrassment being part of this government. Let the media show Kenyans more by going deeper into the interior," he said.
The MP hails from Baringo County and is a member of the KANU party which pledged allegiance to Jubilee in the run-up to the 2017 elections.
The lawmaker said that people have indeed died, contrary to the government's declarations that no one has been confirmed dead as a result of the hunger.
"People have died and its rather sad hearing the government terming it fake news. I have been there, there is nothing fake about it," he added.
Deputy President William Ruto earlier in the week said the reports were fake, adding that local administrators who have given the death reports will be punished.
