Leaders from North Eastern region have termed the new proposed revenue sharing formula as unfair.
The leaders argue that the formula if approved by the Senate will deny the region close to Sh100 Billion in the coming 2019/2010 Financial Year.
Led by Mandera Governor Ali Roba, the leaders claimed that the formula is discriminatory.
They faulted the Commission on Revenue Authority (CRA) for allegedly failing to consult before making proposals on revenue sharing.
“CRA has failed to give clear basis and parameters through which they reached on the new revenue-sharing formula,” Governor Roba told journalists on Friday.
Roba said that they have no option but to rally other leaders to reject the formula.
He said that if the new formula is approved, North Eastern counties will be disadvantaged and will lag behind in terms of development.
The Commission on Revenue Allocation is proposing population as the main factor for allocation of funds to counties.
If the new formula is approved, it will mean that counties with the highest population will get a lion share of the county funding.
