There were reports that Ambani had been appointed as an assistant to Andre Mbungo, to try get the team to its winning ways after a series of poor performances.

The former International and Yanga striker denied the claims but admitted that he had been contacted by the club's officials to take over the position.

According to Ambani, he wants the team officials to do a formal request before deciding on whether to take over the position.

“I requested them to do a formal request which they have done and I will be heading to the team’s offices to hear their plans before making a decision,”

AFC Leopards Secretary General Oscar Igaida had on Thursday announced that Ambani had joined the club's technical bench as an assistant to the new coach to help the team progress.

“We have appointed Ambani to help Mbungo but on interim basis; he will however, still serve as the head coach of the junior side. The two, we believe, will help us get to our rightful place," he said.

AFC Leopards, who lost 2-1 to Mount Kenya United on Wednesday, will face Arch rivals Gor Mahia in the derby on Saturday.
