The leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale has called on Kenyans to unite.
"Let us continue uniting as Kenyans so that we can build a strong Kenya. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the 14 Riverside Terror Attack," Duale said in a tweet moments after the assailants were eliminated.
He also lauded the security apparatus for their swift response and other Kenyans who went out of their way to save lives at the luxurious Dusit D2 hotel complex where the gunmen were holed up.
"Bravo to our heroes who have put their lives in danger to rescue those in distress. May God bless our motherland," he adds.
The 19-hour terrorist attack at 14 Riverside in Westlands first began on Tuesday around 3:30 pm.
Security apparatus swiftly responded to calls for help by Kenyans who had been held at the Dusit D2 Hotel complex where the gunmen took refuge.
By Tuesday midnight, 170 citizens who were at the premises were safely evacuated.
An official statement by the government read by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his State of the Nation address Wednesday indicated that 14 people lost their lives.
It is not yet confirmed how many assailants they were. However, Somali-based militant group al-shabaab claimed responsibility of the attack.
Uhuru assured Kenyans that the police will continue protecting its citizens from such attacks, promising to bring to book those who may have been involved in planning and funding the attack.
