Residents of Bokeire village in Iyabe Sub Location in Bitare, Bonchari Sub County were left in a rude shock when a 75-year-old woman collapsed and died mysteriously after she chased her neighbour's cat from her house.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening.
John Orenge, area assistant chief while confirming the incident said the deceased Jane Nyakerario was in her house with her grandson when she spotted the neighbour's cat in the house.
"It was 8 pm when Nyakerario met her death after she attempted to chase away her neighbour's cat from her house. She threw stones at the cat prompting the cat to flee into darkness," said Orenge.
He said the late screamed for help from neighbours before she collapsed and died.
"Neighbors who responded to the screams arrived at the homestead and found her lying down on the ground unconscious. First aid was administered on her before she was rushed to Iyabe hospital but, unfortunately, she died on her way to the hospital," she noted.
The chief regretted that witchcraft is rampant in the area.
Orenge said the cat's owner has gone into hiding.
"Probe has commenced to ascertain the reason behind the mysterious death. The cat's owner is being pursued," he added.
The deceased body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
