Professor Makau Mutua has said that Deputy President William Ruto has ridiculed President Uhuru Kenyatta after declaring that he was not fully behind the idea of the handshake right from the start.
While appearing in Citizen TV on Tuesday, Ruto claimed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga attempted to approach him four times but he declined.
He said that he never wanted to associate himself with the African High Representative on Infrastructure Development.
Makau Mutua opines that Ruto, who has declared his interest in the Presidency, has declared war on Uhuru and Raila.
The analyst said that it is evident that the second in command has proven that he is not supportive on the war against corruption and building of bridges after the president and Odinga decided to work together before 2022.
“It’s clear @WilliamsRuto has exposed Uhuru Kenyatta to public ridicule by telling him that he doesn’t give a damn about the handshake. He’s declared total war on both Kenyatta and @RailaOdinga. Gloves are now off. Battle lines are drawn. Kenyatta must speak to dispute the lie. – at Garden Of Eden,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
Raila and Ruto have been engaging in a war of words over corruption.
Odinga has been asking Ruto to come clean on various scandals that have rocked the nations including the alleged loss of billions in the dams’ project.
