Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim has exuded confident that the country will adopt a parliamentary system of governance.
Maalim says that a parliamentary system will be the best governance structure for the country.
He notes that Kenyans will benefit under the parliamentary system than the current presidential system.
“My countrymen/women are debating non-issues. Take it from me 'there won’t be presidential election in 2022' We shall amend the constitution to change the Executive to a parliamentary system. Government will come from Parliament and counties will be reduced to viable 14, 15 or 16,” Maalim tweeted.
The former National Assembly Deputy Speaker added that under the new dispensation, the leader of government shall be the leader of the party or coalition with highest number of MPs.
“The lower house will be a prime minister, Prime minister must be elected in a constituency. President shall be ceremonial elected by MPs,” he added.
The referendum debate continues to heat up as majority politicians across the divide support it.
Garissa Township MP Aden Duale is among politicians advocating for a parliamentary system of governance.
However, some politicians among them Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria are against Duale's proposal.
